The 2021–2025 Reykjanes Peninsula eruptions have occurred on the peninsula southwest of the city, not in Reykjavík itself, and are tracked around the clock by the Icelandic Meteorological Office. The capital has never been endangered, although the nearby town of Grindavík was evacuated in late 2023 and remains affected. As of May 2026, no eruption is currently active, though scientists expect another one in the same area.
